Laser 4000 Open – Felixstowe Ferry SC

12/13th June 2004

29 Laser 4000 came from all over the South East to Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club with a strong contigent from Datchet Water Sailing Club. They enjoyed 6 races in variable conditions with tight racing throughout the fleet.

The overall winner of the weekend was Andrew Palmer Felgate and crew Jon Modral who won 2 races on Saturday in stronger winds and a squall gusting 22 knots.Racing was tighter in the lighter breeze on Sunday.

The Stokes Bay team of Hugh Watson and Susanne also won two races on Sunday but a broken spinnaker halyard on Saturday lost them 2 races and their final position was 8th. 2nd overall from Queen Mary S.C. Tom Glanfield and Kevin Barnard,who sailed better on Sunday and fininished equal points with the winners but lost out on the number of first positions won in the tie break.

Douglas and Hilary Baker from Hayling Island S.C winners in 2003 came 3rd.

Felixstowe helm Richard Woolfe and crew Mike Ling finished 23rd overall.

The club organisation was praised by the competitors who enjoyed themselves on and off the water.Thank you to all club members who gave up their time to help at the event and to Waldringfield S.C for the use of Boadciea as a committee boat.
